We found something very rare– a good idea that came out of Southern California!
- For the last few years, there has been a spring league in Southern CA (225 teams played last year!)
- This league, run by CCYB, has provided structure to the spring schedule and allowed the freedom for teams to play in tournaments whenever they want.
- NCTB has run the “Elite” League the last two years, and we looked into how they did things down South, and well, it pains us to say this, but their way is better.
- So we went out and made a deal with the folks who run the league down south to bring that format to Northern CA.
How it Works:
- There are 14 weekends. 2 will be reserved for League Tournaments; the last will be the Championship Series; Easter and Mother’s Day are OFF weekends.
- The beauty of what they have done in SoCal is the flexibility of schedule. It’s so easy for us to MAKE IT WORK for the teams with this format!
- For the other 9 weekends, teams can decide which weekends they want to play. (we request everyone play at least 6 of 9 weekends)
- NCTB will schedule the league in three to four week increments so if your schedule changes, we have the flexibility to deal with it!
- NCTB will schedule the games & umpires, act as league commissioner, handle disputes, keep the standings, provide awards and determine the playoff format.
- Teams pay the umpires at home plate and are responsible for scheduling a home field. (We need 60-70% of teams to have a home field for this to work!)
- If the 2 teams wish, we can play a triple-header instead; we can also play on Saturday instead of Sunday. It’s easy!
Cost/Structure:
- The league fee is $350 and is due by December 31. We will hold a late sign-up period in January, but the cost will go up to $400.
- The two tournaments will each cost $500, and will be played at premium sites. The dates will be set by February 1st. The fees will be due by February 15th.
- Teams must be registered with USSSA Baseball for the 2010 Season.
NOTE: If you choose to pay online, please email us at < This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it > with the dates you can/cannot play.
Over 60 teams have already gotten back to us expressing interest. We are confident that this is going to be a huge hit!
